Basic EMT Course - Initial Training Description Information Basic EMT Course - Initial Training Our 235 hour EMT-Basic program is the initial pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina. This program meets and exceeds the minimum 200 hour requirement under DHEC Regulation. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 2009 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. This is a hybrid course and totals 88 hours online, 136 hours in class, for a total of 224 hours. The course includes: DOT/NHTSA EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum Advanced Airway Module CPR Course SC Enrichment Modules Infection Control Hazardous Materials Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments IV Maintenance Weapons of Mass Destruction Entrance Requirements High School Diploma or GED (copy must be provided). Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class Achieve the minimum score on the Wonderlic Exam ($35.00 cost) or have a minimum of 13 college credits. . Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to . Class size limited to the first 24 qualified, paid registrations. A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify the applicant as paid. Tuition Payment Plan Available, please call for details. Enrolling All initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person at the Council office in order to enroll in a LCREMSC program. The Enrollment Agreement may be completed on the day that the student takes the Wonderlic exam, electronically from home.

Paramedic - Initial Training Description Information Paramedic - Initial Training The Dates Shown are the start and end dates. The competency based paramedic course follows the 2009 National EMS Education Standards and consists of at least 1,346 hours of classroom instruction, laboratory, clinical and field rotations through the Lowcountry Region. In addition, students will complete provider level courses in trauma, advance cardiac life support, and advance level pediatric life support. The course will prepare students to participate in the National Registry Paramedic exam, however cannot guarantee success on any certification exam. Prerequisite Requirements: -NREMT EMT Basic Card -Satisfactory Score on the SLE-Q, and EMT Competency Exam. -Grade of “C” or Better in the LCREMS Anatomy and Physiology Course, or college equivalent within 5 years. -SLED Background check can be obtained through www.catch.sled.sc.gov -Must be covered by employers' Worker's Compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout Paramedic training. - Documented Immunizations against the following: Seasonal Flu, Varicella (3 doses), TDaP (Within 5 Years), Hepatitis B (full series) -Student must also have a Negative PPD Skin test within 12 months and Hepatitis B Titer. -Negative Drug screen scheduled by LCREMS Faculty. The Lowcountry Regional EMS Council is approved by the South Carolina State Approving Agency to receive Veterans Administration benefits for paramedic training. Please contact the Council office for information about utilizing your VA benefits for paramedic tuition. Federal law requires additional specific policies regarding recipients of Veterans Administration Education Benefits. These policies may be found here. Class size limited to the first 32 qualified, paid registrations. A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify the applicant as paid. Tuition Payment Plan Available Enrolling All initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person at the Council office in order to enroll in a LCREMSC program. This indi-vidual is required for all emergency response agencies by Federal law (Ryan White Law- Part G). A course book is supplied to follow the training. Train-the-Trainer OSHA/Bloodborne Pathogens, Airbo Description Information Train-the-Trainer OSHA/Bloodborne Pathogens, Airbo Training must comply with the OSHA blood borne pathogen regulation and the Ryan White Notification Law. A major part of this requirement is training on the diseases and infection control. The OSHA mandate also requires that the trainer be “qualified”.
