BLS Provider Description Information BLS Provider The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It's intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. Advanced EMT - Initial Training Description Information Advanced EMT - Initial Training The 248 hour AEMT program is the next certification level above EMT. This program prepares the candidate to provide more aggressive care to victims of trauma and airway compromise as well as providing the student with more in-depth patient assessment skills. Skills taught in this program include nasal intubation and IV therapy. Entrance Requirements Must maintain at minimum a South Carolina or National Registry EMT certification throughout the course. Achieve the minimum score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Refresher candidates are not required to take the TEAS exam. Each student must be covered by employer's Worker's Compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout intermediate training. The clinical contracts require that our office have on file for each student participating in the clinical process a current health statement verifying that the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within twelve (12) months of the beginning of the class and verifying immunization against Rubella, Rubeola, Varicella and Hepatitis B. The Health Statement form and detailed instructions will be provided at the first class meeting. The Lowcountry Regional EMS Council is approved by the South Carolina State Approving Agency to receive Veterans Administration benefits for paramedic training. Please contact the Council office for information about utilizing your VA benefits for paramedic tuition. Federal law requires additional specific policies regarding recipients of Veterans Administration Education Benefits. These policies may be found here. Class size limited to the first 24 qualified, paid registrations. A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify the applicant as paid. Anatomy and Physiology - 68 Hours Description Information Anatomy and Physiology - 68 Hours This 68 hour course was designed as the anatomy and physiology prerequisite for the Paramedic curriculum and meets all of the anatomy and physiology objectives of the 1999 U.S. Department of Transportation/NHTSA Paramedic Curriculum. This provides students with a better understanding of the "why's and how's" of the different illnesses and injuries encountered in the field. The course provides EMS personnel the opportunity to solidify the foundation of their medical knowledge in a concentrated, forty-five hour course on human anatomy and physiology. Paramedic students may exempt this module if they have a passing score in a course taught by a Technical School, College, or University that meets the objectives of the Anatomy and Physiology curriculum. If the student completed the class more than five (5) years prior to the start date of the paramedic class, the student must pass the comprehensive final exam to exempt the Anatomy and Physiology prerequisite. Only one attempt will be allowed. This will be an classroom course, with online components. Students must have internet access to participate in this program. Paramedic - Initial Training Description Information Paramedic - Initial Training The Dates Shown are the start and end dates...call if you have questions. The competency based paramedic course follows the 2009 National EMS Education Standards and consists of at least 1,346 hours of classroom instruction, laboratory, clinical and field rotations through the Lowcountry Region. In addition students will complete provider level courses in trauma, advance cardiac life support, and advance level pediatric life support. The course will prepare students to participate in the National Registry Paramedic exam. Entrance Requirements Must maintain at minimum a South Carolina or National Registry EMT certification throughout the course. Achieve the minimum score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Successfully complete an anatomy and physiology course within the past 5 years. Lowcountry Regional EMS Council will be offering a LREMSC Anatomy & Physiology Course. Please contact the LREMSC Education Director if you believe you qualify for an exemption to have the courses you have successfully completed evaluated. An official school transcript is required to perform an exemption evaluation. Please assure that you allow ample time for the acquisition of an official transcript and the exemption evaluation process. Must be covered by employers' Worker's Compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout Paramedic training. The clinical contract requires that all individuals having contact with patients (including students performing clinical rotations) undergo a national criminal background check. Each student is required to submit a photocopy of their driver’s license to the Council Staff for completion of the criminal background check. If you are considering paramedic training and have an arrest record, you must contact us as soon as possible to determine whether you are eligible for participation in the paramedic course. The hospital and field clinical contracts require that our office have on file for each student participating in the clinical process a current health statement verifying that the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within three (3) months prior to the beginning of clinicals and verifying immunization against Rubella, Rubeola, Varicella, Tetanus and Hepatitis B. The contracts also require a drug screen immediately prior to the start of clinical rotations. The Lowcountry Regional EMS Council is approved by the South Carolina State Approving Agency to receive Veterans Administration benefits for paramedic training. Please contact the Council office for information about utilizing your VA benefits for paramedic tuition. Federal law requires additional specific policies regarding recipients of Veterans Administration Education Benefits. These policies may be found here. Class size limited to the first 32 qualified, paid registrations. A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify the applicant as paid. Tuition Payment Plan Available Enrolling All initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person at the Council office in order to enroll in a LCREMSC program. Students must make an appointment to complete the Enrollment Agreement by calling (843) 529-0977. The Enrollment Agreement may be completed on the day that the student takes the TEAS and Basic EMT Knowledge exam provided the student makes those arrangements in advance.
