Basic EMT Course - Initial Training Description Information Basic EMT Course - Initial Training Our 235 hour EMT-Basic program is the initial pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina. This program meets and exceeds the minimum 200 hour requirement under DHEC Regulation. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 2009 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. This is a hybrid course and totals 88 hours online, 136 hours in class, for a total of 224 hours. The course includes: DOT/NHTSA EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum Advanced Airway Module CPR Course SC Enrichment Modules Infection Control Hazardous Materials Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments IV Maintenance Weapons of Mass Destruction Entrance Requirements High School Diploma or GED (copy must be provided). Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class Achieve the minimum score on the Wonderlic Exam ($35.00 cost) or have a minimum of 13 college credits. . Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to . Class size limited to the first 24 qualified, paid registrations. Anatomy and Physiology - 128 Hours Description Information Anatomy and Physiology - 128 Hours This 128 hour course was designed as the anatomy and physiology prerequisite for the Paramedic curriculum and meets all of the anatomy and physiology objectives of the 2009 U.S. Department of Transportation/NHTSA Paramedic Curriculum. This provides students with a better understanding of the "why's and how's" of the different illnesses and injuries encountered in the field. The course provides EMS personnel the opportunity to solidify the foundation of their medical knowledge in a concentrated, 128 hour course on human anatomy and physiology. Paramedic students may exempt this module if they have a passing score in a course taught by a Technical School, College, or University that meets the objectives of the Anatomy and Physiology curriculum. If the student completed the class more than five (5) years prior to the start date of the paramedic class, the student must pass the comprehensive final exam to exempt the Anatomy and Physiology prerequisite. Only one attempt will be allowed. This will be an online classroom course, with live lectures online and in-class labratory components.
