Basic EMT Course - Initial Training Description Information Basic EMT Course - Initial Training The 200 hour EMT-Basic program is the initial pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 2009 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. This is a hybrid course and totals 88 hours online, 136 hours in class, for a total of 224 hours. The course includes: DOT/NHTSA EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum Advanced Airway Module CPR Course SC Enrichment Modules Infection Control Hazardous Materials Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments IV Maintenance Weapons of Mass Destruction Entrance Requirements High School Diploma or GED (copy must be provided). Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class Achieve the minimum score on the Wonderlic Exam ($35.00 cost) or have a college degree. Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to . Class size limited to the first 24 qualified, paid registrations. A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify the applicant as paid. Tuition Payment Plan Available, please call for details. Enrolling All initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person at the Council office in order to enroll in a LCREMSC program. EMS Instructor - Methodology Course Description Information EMS Instructor - Methodology Course The forty-hour EMS Instructor Training Program focuses on those skills necessary to successfully present any of the Certificate EMS courses. The course provides a solid foundation in learning theory, yet moves directly into hands on application. With the emphasis on practical skill development, instructor trainees will complete this course with the confidence and skills necessary to teach any EMS course. This course is designed as a series of interactive lessons facilitated by an instructor trainer. Included throughout the course are group discussions, individual exercises, and scenario based role plays that allow participants to apply their developing instructor skills. The EMS Instructor course is required for all Training Officers and anyone wishing to be considered for training as a Basic EMT Instructor, Advanced EMT Instructor, or Paramedic Instructor.

Anatomy and Physiology - 68 Hours Description Information Anatomy and Physiology - 68 Hours This 68 hour course was designed as the anatomy and physiology prerequisite for the Paramedic curriculum and meets all of the anatomy and physiology objectives of the 1999 U.S. Department of Transportation/NHTSA Paramedic Curriculum. This provides students with a better understanding of the "why's and how's" of the different illnesses and injuries encountered in the field. The course provides EMS personnel the opportunity to solidify the foundation of their medical knowledge in a concentrated, forty-five hour course on human anatomy and physiology. Paramedic students may exempt this module if they have a passing score in a course taught by a Technical School, College, or University that meets the objectives of the Anatomy and Physiology curriculum. If the student completed the class more than five (5) years prior to the start date of the paramedic class, the student must pass the comprehensive final exam to exempt the Anatomy and Physiology prerequisite. Only one attempt will be allowed. This will be an classroom course, with online components. Students must have internet access to participate in this program.
