Hybrid - Initial Training - EMT Basic Course Description Information Hybrid - Initial Training - EMT Basic Course Our 235 hour EMT-Basic program exceeds the minimum hours as required for certification as a Basic EMT in South Carolina (200 hours minimum required by DHEC). This is the initial pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina and there are no pre-requisites. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 2009 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. This is a hybrid course and totals 88 hours online, 136 hours in class, for a total of 224 hours. Entrance Requirements High School Diploma or GED (copy must be provided). Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class Achieve the minimum score on the Wonderlic Exam ($35.00 cost) or have thirteen (13) or more college credits. Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to Appendix A: Americans with Disabilities Act, Attachment 1: Functional Position Description, for description of all essential duties of an EMT)

Basic Designated Infection Control Officer Course Description Information Basic Designated Infection Control Officer Course A two day course designed to prepare the attendee for assuming this important role. This indi-vidual is required for all emergency response agencies by Federal law (Ryan White Law- Part G). A course book is supplied to follow the training. This includes; testing laws, Ryan White law, medical waste regulations, confidentiality, discrimination, job description, how to establish an effective communication system, proper post exposure medical treatment, recordkeeping and reporting requirements. This course covers childhood diseases as well as meningitis and blood-borne pathogens & TB.

Train-the-Trainer OSHA/Bloodborne Pathogens, Airbo Description Information Train-the-Trainer OSHA/Bloodborne Pathogens, Airbo Training must comply with the OSHA blood borne pathogen regulation and the Ryan White Notification Law. A major part of this requirement is training on the diseases and infection control. The OSHA mandate also requires that the trainer be “qualified”. This course will meet the OSHA requirement for your becoming a qualified trainer for your department. This course meets the statement – certificate of additional specialized training.
