BLS (CPR) for the Community Description Information BLS (CPR) for the Community The American Heart Association BLS Providers Course is a 4 hour class that covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation. PALS Renewal Course Description Information PALS Renewal Course The PALS Program was developed jointly by AHA and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The PALS course provides education for medical personnel actively involved in pediatric emergency care. All courses are taught to the standards of the AHA. The AHA AAP Program recommends renewal within 2 years. Pre-requisites include current PALS provider status and completion of a (CPR) Basic Life Support Course within 2 years. A copy of your current PALS and CPR cards with expiration date shown must accompany this registration form. Participants will be given the opportunity to refresh practical skills prior to demonstrating cognitive and practical expertise through a written and performance evaluation.

ATCN Description Information ATCN The ATCN Course is taught concurrently with Advanced Trauma Life Support for Physicians (ATLS). This is an advanced level nursing course designed to increase the nurse’s knowledge in the management of the multiple trauma patient based on the ATLS standards of trauma care.   ATCN is overseen by the Society of Trauma Nurses. This course targets the experienced nurse practicing in the following areas: Prehospital and Aeromedical, Emergency Department, Surgical Intensive Care Units, and the Operating Room.   The ATCN participant audits the ATLS lectures, inclusive of Initial Assessment, Airway Management, Shock, Abdominal, Thoracic, Head, Spine, and Musculoskeletal Trauma Pediatric, Burns, Trauma in Women and Transfer to Definitive Care.

Emergency Vehicle Operators Course Description Information Emergency Vehicle Operators Course The Emergency Vehicle Driver Training course provides emergency vehicle operators with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate an emergency vehicle in emergency and non-emergency mode. The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires that all EMS operators take a DOH-approved course prior to operating an emergency vehicle. Topics covered include legal aspects of emergency vehicle operations, navigation and route mapping, driver roles and responsibilities, basic driving skills, and proper driving procedures. The first day of class is conducted in the classroom. The second day of class includes a hands-on practical in which participants will have to drive an emergency vehicle through a competency course. Participants will receive 16 hours of Pennsylvania continuing education credits upon successful completion of the the course. This course has been produced by VFIS. BLS for Healthcare Providers - Renewal Description Information BLS for Healthcare Providers - Renewal The BLS Renewal course is an Instructor-led course reviewing all of the material covered in the BLS Orientation course. To be eligible for this course, you must have a current American Heart Association BLS Provider card (or proof that you completed the course and your certification is current.) Regarding expired cards, the AHA states that "students who present an expired Provider card or do not possess a Provider card may be allowed to take a renewal course but will not be given the option of remediation. These students will need to complete the entire Provider course if they cannot successfully meet the course completion requirements when tested."
