Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider Description Information Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care in your area and decrease mortality. The program is based on a prehospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The PHTLS course is continuously updated and revised to keep up with the advances in the field, ATLS Guidelines and feedback from PHTLS participants.

Defensive Tactics for EMS Description Information Defensive Tactics for EMS The objective of this course is to teach ambulance personnel ways to defend themselves so that they can safely exit a scene and call the proper authorities. The objective is not to teach them how to win an MMA fight, rather, it is to give them fundamentally sound ways to physically defend themselves so that they can retreat to safety as quickly and safely as possible. These learned skills will minimize injuries to pre-hospital providers and will also decrease injury to a combative subject.

Providers are expected to learn to manage the following ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradychardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke.
